Singapore Airlines have released some games for you to unlock promo codes and I have been playing last week. My main aim was for Denpasar (Bali) but not sure if there isn't or I have yet to unlock it. Please do share with me if you have it.
Sharing with you what I have got so far.
Prices for return tickets are as follows but note that you have to book by 02 January 2019 and pay using MasterCard. Travel period is 7 February 2019 to 13 June 2019.
Being quite a Potterhead, I had to make a visit to the Changi Wizarding World to get the Gryffindor scarf which is only available in public areas from 16 - 18 November. Thank goodness I bought the Slytherin scarf when I was in USJ last year.
The decorations were only at T2 and T3. If you are looking for the fastest way to get to robe fitting, you can follow what I did.
You have to take 3 photos of yourself at the following event areas in T3 then post them on either Facebook, Instagram, Weibo or WeChat using #ChangiWizardingWorld.
We managed to catch the Snow and Light show while going exploring the decorations.
The next step is to return to the Diagon Alley event area to register yourself for either of the 2 activities or the Surprise Giveaway which I feel that the prizes aren't attractive unless you are in a rush of time. Do note that you need to present your social media post with your NRIC and download the iChangi app.
For the 2 activities, you can choose either:
Set A: Robes Fitting + Wand Challenge
Set B: Quaffle Toss + Niffler Challenge Game
I picked Set A since I get to dress up as a wizard and have the GIF e-mailed to me.
After registration, I got the house stickers which I don't know what I can use them for yet.
You do not have to really queue at the robes fitting because the staff would be calling out queue numbers. Just stand by outside the activity area with your ticket.
They have robes for the kids too so do check before you put on cause I was one of those who only realised after I put it on.
Each registrant gets to take 4 shots for the GIF so for example my friend and I would get 8 shots in total.
I must say that the background was a spoiler and we should have stood closer to the camera.
We didn't go for the wand challenge since it was just playing with the wand in front of the mirror.
Time to talk about merchandise which can only be bought at T3 event area next to Hogsmeade Village. The stuff aren't cheap and not interesting enough to me.
So how to get the Gryffindor scarf? First criteria, you have to be a Changi Rewards member. Second criteria, purchase $60 worth of anything at the public area in a single receipt. For supermarket, you will have to accumulate $120. Signing up as a Changi Rewards member is free so why not?
I bought the Sulwhasoo Cleansing Foam Ex Duo at $61.90 from the Sulwhasoo counter at public area and headed to B2 event area with my receipt, promotion paper (given with receipt) and my Changi Rewards e-card. I spent an additional $15.00 to get my long-awaited Gryffindor scarf.
If you are looking to get into Christmas mood, you do not necessarily have to be at Orchard now. Changi Airport is a good place to chill, shop and dine. I am starting to appreciate our airport as I traveled around the world.
Woke up early again and off to the dessert. We joined the Arabian Adventures tour for the sand dune and our tour guide was Rahim. There were 4 other tourists who joined us. Before heading to the dessert, the tyres had to be deflated. The ride was fun like a roller coaster and we spotted gazelles. There were supposed to be oryx too but we weren't that lucky.
Stopped by a point for photo-taking.
I do look very happy when my feet is off the smoking hot sand. No joke. You can go for sandboarding but my feet was almost 'cooked' and I can't climb up. Please wear covered shoes if you intend to go to the desert.
Camel riding for the first time was interesting. Instead of moving up and down, it was left and right. Breakfast consisting of muffin, croissant, fruits and a drink was prepared for us. Back to hotel to wash up and it was time to leave. We stored our luggages at Dubai International Airport at 40 DHR for 12 hours so that we can head to the Gold Souk. We took the metro to Al Ras and walked to the Gold Souk. It was scorching hot to have to walk on the streets. We merely had lunch in a small restaurant, bought souvenirs and walked around. Back to Dubai International Airport to get a drink and rest before leaving for Singapore. What I missed most about Dubai? The comfortable car rides that brings me to sleep.
Woke up to hotel breakfast, glad that they offer slightly different dishes day to day.
Went up to 43rd Level to see the pool and jacuzzi but it was disappointing. It was more like a kids pool.
Back to hotel room to rest before heading to Burj Khalifa. We lost our way while walking from Dubai Mall but we managed to catch the fountain show in the day. We reserved afternoon tea, a window table for 2 at At.Mosphere which cost us 515 DHR each. Yes it is that expensive to eat at Level 122.
The atmosphere was welcoming but warm because of the sun.
We couldn't finish the desserts and it was a pity.
I got to say that service was good, Alex sure served us well and I could have requested for a wefie.
Back to hotel to get changed and took the hotel shuttle to Mall of the Emirates.
There were lesser shops compared to Dubai Mall. We had dinner at Common Grounds which was awful according to my friend who had the Bimbibap.
Took the metro back to Financial Centre and walked back to hotel.
Joined the City Tour and Ferrari World organized by Arabian Adventures.
Our tour guide was nicknamed Chubby and he sure brought us laughter and taught us much about Dubai.
We stopped by a mosque to meet the rest of the tour group. Beautiful architecture and well-maintained.
Our first stop was to Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Dress code for ladies were strict. I was wearing black trousers, long sleeve blouse up to wrist and a scarf around my head.
Plenty of tourists so it was hard to take photos without presence of human beings.
Our next stop was to Ferrari World.
Along the way, we passed by Emirates Palace Hotel which is 1.0 km in length, imagine how huge it is.
Chubby told us that a rich man is building a property of 1.5 km in length to beat the Emirates Palace Hotel. Wealthy people makes me wonder where their money comes from.
We also passed by several beach palaces which made us felt so insignificant. You got to see the palaces for yourself. There are only 2 kinds of citizens in Dubai, the rich and the very rich.
We arrived at Ferrari World at about 1:30pm and had about 3 hours to spend.
Had Pad Thai for lunch at IL PODIO. Portion was big again and the noodles were a bit tough. Our first ride was Viaggio in Italia which brought us to Italy attractions. Although they mentioned that it was a simulator, don't expect it to be thrilling. We were rather disappointed. Next was Galleria Ferrari which showcased the Ferrari models. If you love Ferrari, you would love it here as you get to be up close with the luxury cars.
We went on a 4D ride Speed of Magic. This is a little more thrilling compared to Viaggio in Italia but still far from USS's Transformers The Ride. Time was almost up by then so we went to the souvenir shop near the entrance but nothing makes us want to splurge.
We headed to Dubai Mall again but this time we managed to do some shopping. The shops at Dubai Mall have high ceiling and they are generally bigger than those in Singapore. I brought 2 t-shirts from GAP and lingerie from Victoria Secret. There is a wide selection of lingerie, accessories and bodycare products. I would have bought more if I had more time. Saw Burj Khalifa and caught the majestic Fountain Show.
We had light dinner at Laduree before returning to hotel.
11 April 2018 I guess this is my trip of the year. If not for the promotional fares by Singapore Airlines, it might never occur to me that I would be going to Dubai. My trip usually starts days before I fly because I would be shopping on iShopChangi, comparing prices and finding new products. I just had to check-out and collect on my day of departure or arrival. Saves my time and unnecessary walking. So what did I buy this time? I purchased the Bioderma Sensibio H20 consisting of 3 sizes at $46.90, Hera Black Cushion No. 21 Duo Set at $114.50 and Shiseido Future Solution Lx Total Radiance Loose Powder at $89.00. In addition, there was a promotion code that I used for 9% discount. Totally worth it and it was cheaper than in Tangs 12% Rebate Programme. I also purchased the limited edition Jo Malone Sakura Cherry Blossom at $194.00 at the pop-up store. Got this free engraving of my name done on the acrylic keychain. Departed for Dubai International Airport at 3.00pm. Thank goodness the flight wasn't full but there was a Vietnam tour group giving disturbances before and after flight. The inflight meal wasn't fantastic but still, I finished everything except for the bread.
Caught the movie "The Greatest Showman" in flight and into sleep mode. Arrived at Dubai International Airport at 6:30pm. Immigration clearance didn't take long as we rushed to be before the Vietnam tour group. There are 2 types of taxi, Toyota or the more luxurious choice Lexus. Generally, tourists were recommended Lexus which is about twice the fare of Toyota. Their Toyota taxis are actually more comfortable and spacious than our Comfort Delgro so there isn't a need to splurge on Lexus. Seriously, the journeys on their taxis or vans are so much more comfortable and good for naps. Our next 3 nights are spent in Emirates Grand Hotel which is walking distance to Financial Centre Metro Station. We got a free upgrade to the Premium Suite and were so happy that we screamed in the lift. Let me show you the suite.
After settling down, we took the metro to Dubai Mall which is just 1 station away. It costed us 6 DHR each. It is more expensive compared to Singapore. If you intend to walk to Dubai Mall from the Dubai Mall / Burj Khalifa Metro Station, let me warn you about the number of travelators that you have to walk. Dubai Mall is the biggest shopping mall in Dubai and has the designer brands that you can think of and have not heard of. If you are in the era when Singapore's Wisma Atria has an aquarium, Dubai Mall has a way bigger version.
Had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory which had at least 200 seats. I had Rigatoni in Tomato Sauce and the portion can feed 3 of me. Highly recommended that you share the main dish. My friend tried the Original Cheesecake which was really good. Prices are on the higher side. Took the metro back to hotel and had an early rest.
I was invited to attend a secondary school friend's wedding in Jakarta and it was my first time in Jakarta. Grabbed the chance to take a tour in the city.
We took Scoot TR276 and arrived at SoekarnoHatta International Airport (CGK) at 11:10am. The airport interior looked so much like Changi Airport including the directional signs.
We took a Bluebird taxi as recommended by friend. We took a queue number and waited at the designated taxi stand which is near the arrival gate. Bluebird charges by meter which is better for tourists since we are not familiar with the city.
The taxi costed us about S$16.00 and the journey was about 30mins from airport to our hotel JS Luwansa.
After check-in, we headed to Plaza Festival for lunch. Decided on A&W for our first meal in Jakarta.
There was nothing to shop in Plaza Festival so we walked to Kuningan City which was slightly better but most shops were under renovation.
We were there for maybe 30 mins then walked over to Mal Ambasador and ITC Kuningan.
Next mall was Lotte Shopping Avenue which was more like it although we didn't buy anything except for snacks.
We took a cab to National Monument to meet an ex-classmate for dinner and catch-up since it was more than 10 yrs ago.
We had dinner at one of their popular restaurants Sate Khas Senayan in Grand Indonesia. The peanut sauce was oh-so-good like peanut butter. We also ordered sambal kang kong and other dishes to share but ended up over-ordering.
It was a very filling dinner treat.
We headed back to hotel to rest as we had a long day out.
29 July 2018
We had hotel breakfast which had a not bad selection from pastries, omelette, porridge, rice, salad and fruits. The Japanese fried rice was so good that I had 2 servings.
We took a cab to Grand Indonesia for shopping. The mall was quite big so we kept walking from east to west and to east.
We met another ex-classmate for lunch at Han Gang Korean Restaurant. It was quite a feast again.
As we were still early to go back hotel to prepare for the wedding dinner, we were recommended to go to Mangga Dua Mall for cheap shopping. Think of it like Platinum Shopping Mall in Bangkok. If we had the time, we would have stayed there longer.
I didn't manage to get any loots but bought guava to munch.
We headed back to hotel to get dressed up and rushed to Ritz-Carlton Kuningan.
We were so impressed by the extravagant floral decorations at the reception. You probably will never see this in Singapore.
Dinner was buffet style and there were many live stations. Food was good but only water was served. Not a bad thing to avoid drunkards.
A big thank you to Rully and Cen Cen for the wedding invitation and wishing them a blissful marriage.
30 July 2018
We had hotel breakfast again but there was a slight change in the cooked items.
We took a cab to Zen Family Spa at Gunawarman. I read good reviews about them and the services were even cheaper than in JB.
I picked the Balinese relaxation massage and body scrub which cost IDR 239K which was so worth it.
We headed back to hotel to check-out and headed to Ritz-Carlton Kuningan to meet the newly weds for lunch at Lobo.
The restaurant was quiet and service was fantastic, not to mention that we had free appetizers and desserts.
Took a cab to SoekarnoHatta International Airport (CGK) at about 3pm. The departure hall was not as well-furbished as the arrival hall for sure. We had a quick lunch at Old Town White Coffee and I bought batik apparel for my parents.
While we were rushing to the departure gate, we were informed by Lion Air that there was a flight delay of 30mins. We chose to wait outside the gate since there were lesser people. After 30mins, we were informed of another delay and this time, almost an hour. That means 1.5 hours of delay.
We had no choice and I had to request for half-day morning leave for the next day since I will be back in Singapore late.
It was 10pm when I arrived in Singapore and dead tired even though I slept in the flight.
I believe most of us should have known that Uber has ceased operations in Singapore and as a UberEATS walker, I have to figure out how to get my $30 deposit back.
I contacted the UberEATS support team recently and was advised to head to UberHub to delete my account and return the delivery bag which I don't have. I will try to make a trip this weekend to the below address, hopefully I will be able to get my money back.
I also did ask when will UberHub be closing for good, unfortunately they can't tell me exactly when. If you are hoping to get your deposit back, please do try to make a trip as soon as you can.
