Review: Happy Teeth-Brushing with Playbrush

Believe it or not, 1 in 2 kids have one or more rotten teeth by the start of primary school. I find it quite a shocking fact and yes, I was checking on my 4-year old nephew's teeth after reading this.

Some parents may have the thought that the milk teeth with bacteria will be lost and the adult teeth may grow out just fine. That's not true. Cited from the Straits Times article, "bacteria from the milk tooth can result in an abscess that will spread to the tooth growing under it". It's time to do something if you have a child to care for.

Brushing techniques are also important and parents are advised to supervise or even help with second round of brushing. Do visit the dentist when you have to.

Thanks to SampleStore for sending the Playbrush for my 4-year old nephew Beorn to brush his teeth in an more interesting way. Let's begin by watching how much he enjoys using Playbrush through the game app Utoothia.

I believe you have understand better how Playbrush works for the kids by making teeth-brushing as a game.

A Playbrush set consists of the user manual, Utoothia user manual, USB cable and the Playbrush device.

The Playbrush device consists of 2 parts namely the white charging component and the pink bluetooth component. These 2 components can be separated in order to connect the white charging component to the USB cable for charging. For first-time users, you just need to charge for 1 minute and you can start using Playbrush.

The toothbrush needs to be inserted into the pink component of the Playbrush and make sure that the smartphone's Bluetooth is on. Open the app Utoothia and register as a player. The white component of the Playrbush will blink continuously with a yellow light when it is has been detected by the app Utoothia.

In the Utoothia video above, you will notice that the green creatures named Crobies were going towards the centre where your character is. The Crobies represent the bacteria in the mouth from the top, lower, right and left sides of the teeth. The aim is to stop these Crobies from getting to you and brush in the direction where the Crobies are. Each game lasts for 2 minutes and will allow the user to have ample time to brush each tooth.

My nephew now requests to use the Playbrush even after having lunch. Brushing is no longer a chore to him and it has definitely improved his mouth hygience.

The app Utoothia runs smoothly and is quite receptive to bluetooth. This is important as kids don't have patience to wait for the app to load.

Baked Salmon with Lemon Garlic Butter Sauce

I tried another recipe I found online and simplified it for simpler cooking. This is a healthy and easy recipe for lunch.

Ingredients (Portion for 4)
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp minced garlic
600g salmon filet
1 small broccoli, cut into small florets
1/2 pack baby carrots

1) Pre-heat the oven to 190°C for 10mins.

2) While waiting, stir-fry the minced garlic till fragrant and add lemon juice using medium heat.

3) When the lemon juice has reduced by half, add in 1 tbsp unsalted butter and let it melt slowly. You can remove the frying fan from the stove from time to time to overheat.

3) When the butter has melted, add the balance 1 tbsp butter and allow it to melt.

4) Scope the sauce into a bowl for use later.

5) Spread a bit of butter on the aluminium foil where the salmon will be packed in.

6) Place the salmon on the aluminium foil and spread the sauce on top. Seal the aluminium foil and place in oven to bake for 10-14 mins.

6) Boil a pot of water to cook the broccoli and baby carrots for 5mins and serve on plates.

7) When the salmon is cooked, open up the aluminium foil and let it broil for another 2-3 mins before serving.
